In the midst of the global pandemic in 2020, while the Philippines faced a mounting public health crisis, Rena—a medical student leading a national organization at the time—came across the concept of Global Surgery through an online networking event. Intrigued, she stumbled upon InciSioN Global. Knowing that Grace, a fellow student leader and aspiring surgeon, shared her passion for equitable healthcare, Rena sent her a casual message.
That message sparked more than a conversation—it launched a vision. They both realized that Global Surgery was the perfect convergence of their advocacies: public health and surgery. And so, what began as a shared passion soon became a purposeful endeavor—InciSioN Philippines.
Together with friends that share the same passion for public health, they laid the groundwork in 2020, driven by a deep commitment to equity in surgical care. It wasn’t until 2023 that InciSioN Philippines was officially recognized as a National Working Group (NWG). Since then, the team has been amplifying Global Surgery in the country—through research, advocacy, and education.
What started out as a casual conversation between two aspiring surgeons bore fruit to an application for InciSioN.
